Coyote Hunting Videos

Coyote Hunting 0 Comment »

As far as I am concerned there are 2 real masters that hunt coyotes and make coyote hunting videos while they do it. They are Randy Anderson and Byron South. Both have made incredible DVD’s and I own and watch every one of them. I can also say that I learn something new almost every time I watch them too.

Randy is probably the most well known and has the most videos out. He also partners with Primos Calls and has his own line of predator calls. They are excellent as well.

Probably the most instructional coyote hunting video Randy has made to date is “The Truth II”. If you don’t own it I highly suggest you pick yourself up a copy. You will learn a great deal from it not only about hunting and calling, but also about coyote behavior in general. It always helps to know a few facts about the varmints you are hunting.

Byron South might not be as well known but he also has produced some very instructional and entertaining coyote hunting videos. Byron Is a little more on the instructional side in his videos even going so far as to talk about calls, guns, etc. This I like and I’m pretty sure you will too. Byron’s video “Coming To The Call” is an excellent pick.

And last but not least there are some pretty darn good coyote hunting videos on You Tube. There are definitely a few amateur coyote hunters out there making some fun to watch videos as well.

I’ve uploaded coyote hunting videos and other tips on coyote hunting at my blog for you.

Know Your Ohio Hunting Regulations

Hunting Regulations 0 Comment »

There are a lot of different things that you’re allowed to hunt in Ohio, so hunting regulations in the state get pretty precise. First, you need to have a license to hunt anything & you need to hunt within the specified hunting seasons, & secondly, you need to know about the restrictions for each animal, so here are some basics to get you started on your hunting activities:

Deer hunting
Deer hunting is widespread around the country, so this one is a biggie for a lot of people. You will be able to get a license for deer hunting for a full season, for all deer for only .00. If you’re only going to be hunting antlerless deer, you are able to get a limited use permit for .00.

Deer hunting season ranges based on what you’ll be hunting with. For example, the Ohio hunting regulations state that if you’re archey hunting you can hunt from September 24 to February 5. This is only for white tail deer.

You should also know that there is an early muzzleloader white tailed deer season. You will not need a controlled hunt permit or application for the areas of Salt Fork Wildlife Area, Wildcat Hollow, or Shawnee State Forest. This season is short. It starts on October 17th & it goes until October 22nd.

In the above listed areas, white tail gun and muzzleloader seasons are: November 28th through December 4 for guns and January 7 through January 10th. State wide dates for both guns and muzzleloaders are as follows: December 17th to December eighteenth for guns and January 7 to January 10th.

Smaller Game
According to the Ohio hunting regulations, you must have a permit to hunt small game like rabbits & squirrels and your daily bag limit is 4 rabbits and six squirrels. However, you must be aware of rabbit hunting limitations & the dates that it’s open to hunt.

For pheasants, quail and doves, you will have to have a hunting permit as well. The daily bag limits are two cocks for pheasants, four quail and doves have specific regulations, so you will need to check into it based on where you reside.

Other small game including fox, raccoon, skunk, weasel, crow, coyote and wild boar can be hunted year-round, but if you are hunting for these during the deer hunting seasons, the Ohio hunting regulations say that you need to follow the deer hunting laws. There is no bag limit on any of these animals except for grouse, which is two.

Turkey hunting
When it comes to hunting wild turkeys, you have 2 chances, in the fall and the spring, but there are Ohio hunting regulations that you must pay attention to. For instance, there are specific laws that clarify when you can hunt these animals, such as if a turkey is in a tree, it’s unlawful to kill it. You’ll have to purchase a seasonal hunting permit for hunting wild turkeys and you are only allowed to kill one per season.

Hunting can be a perfect way to get your food, help to control animal populations and is a great sport, but you have to go along with the Ohio hunting regulations to make sure that you have a safe, entertaining and legal time.
